Upcoming Exhibit

Blue has carried cultural and symbolic meaning throughout history. Once a rare and costly pigment associated with status and wealth, blue is now woven into everyday life, from clothing and objects to the sky, oceans, and waterways that surround us.
VQM Blues explores the rich history and enduring appeal of indigo in American quilting. Drawing from the Virginia Quilt Museum’s collection, the exhibition highlights quilts that showcase the many shades, patterns, and design possibilities created with this distinctive blue dye. From deep indigo to softer blue tones, these quilts reveal how color can shape the character and visual impact of a quilt.
Discover the beauty of indigo and the many ways quilters have made blue their own.
