Group Tours and
Virtual Presentations
The Virginia Quilt Museum welcomes groups from 10 or more people to our location in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Virtual presentations are also available for groups of any size. Group visits are available during our regularly scheduled open hours of Tuesday-Saturday 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, and for an extra fee during non-open hours.
If you would like to arrange a group visit please read the options below and then fill out the request form on our website at least 3 weeks before your visit. Once we receive your form we will be in touch within 3 days to finalize your visit or presentation. If it is less than 3 weeks until your visit please call the museum at (540)433-3818 and we will try and accommodate your group.
In Person Options
Self Guided
$6 per person
Groups of 10 or more can explore our exhibits for a reduced rate with at least 1 week advance notice, groups must pay when registering to receive the reduced admission. Groups that do not register and pay in advance will be charged normal admission prices.
Guided Tour
$8 per person
Guided tours include all current exhibitions plus a brief visit to our conservation lab to examine one quilt from our education collection and learn about how we care for and preserve our quilts. These tours are led by volunteer docents or museum staff.
Hands on Presentation
$150 for groups up to 15 people (45 minutes)
$225 for groups of 12-30 people (1 hour and 30 minutes)
Guided tours include all current exhibitions plus a brief visit to our conservation lab to examine one quilt from our education collection and learn about how we care for and preserve our quilts. These tours are led by volunteer docents or museum staff.
Join Executive Director, Alicia Thomas, in our conservation lab to see a special selection of quilts arranged just for your group.6-8 quilts will be pulled from our collections for your group to see. This will include 4-5 quilts from our education collection that you will be allowed to touch and examine up close. Admission to all current museum exhibitions is included with the presentation.
Due to the size of our conservation lab this option is limited to 15people, if you have more than 15 people we will split the group into two groups and do the presentation twice.
Bring VQM to you!
$225 plus travel expenses*
Executive Director Alicia Thomas will come to you with an assortment of quilts from the education collection. Alicia will work with you to pick 8 quilts that best reflect your group’s interest. Your group will be able to examine the quilts and learn how VQM cares for its collection along with how it determines what to collect.
*Travel expenses include mileage to and from the museum to your location at the current government rate. If the location is more than a 3 hour drive away from the museum a hotel room is also required for one night.
Virtual Options
20-30 Minutes Presentation
$75 for groups of all sizes
Executive Director Alicia Thomas will join your virtual meeting for a presentation on an agreed upon topic. Each presentation will include a brief overview of the history of the Virginia Quilt Museum, our collection, what exhibits and events are coming up, and a Q&A at the end of the presentation. Presentations will include 5-6 quilts and include close up photos of details of each quilt. No recording of the presentation is allowed.
45-60 Minute Presentation
$150 for groups of all sizes (45-60 minutes)
This longer presentation will include 8-10 quilts from the collection and include detailed photos of each quilt. Topics can be specialized for your group and this is an excellent opportunity to experience pieces in our collection that are too fragile for display. No recording of the presentation is allowed.

Fully Customized Virtual Presentation
$300 for groups of all sizes (60 minutes)
( 6 weeks lead time needed for specialized presentations )
You will work with VQM staff to select 6-8 quilts from the collection to be presented virtually to your group. VQM staff will then photograph the selected quilts and details of the quilt and design the presentation. You may record the presentation for future use.
