Join us to talk about some of the landscape quilts of our Stitching Together History exhibit!

What's the inspiration for a landscape quilt? In this program we will be looking at quilts from our Stitching Together History exhibit with some of their makers. Discover the methods and inspirations of our speakers and get an in depth look at makers shaped by their Virginia home.

This presentation will be recorded and the recording will be shared with registrants.

Eileen Doughty is a fiber artist and Board Member of the Virginia Quilt Museum. Her previous career as a cartographer has been useful for her fiber art, since both require understanding how people view and interpret color, pattern and symbols. Currently her work focuses on exploring what makes fiber art unique: texture, freedom of shape of the “canvas” (not limited to a rectangle or straight edges), and employing three rather than two dimensions.

Linda Boone is a fabric collector who occasionally cuts it up to make quilts, bags, and other art projects.  Currently the president of the Charlottesville Area Quilt Guild, she is also a member of the Richmond Chapter of the American Sewing Guild and the Four Seasons Quilt and Fiber Arts Group in Greene County.  While fabric provides her a creative outlet, she thrives in the camaraderie of being with women (and the occasional men) who enjoy learning and sharing all things found in the quilting arts.

Born and raised in Germany, Karin Tauber settled in Virginia in 1999. Formerly a Montessori teacher, she started to lecture and teach quilt classes after her daughters were born. Karin is the founder of the Hachinger Quilt Festival in Munich, Germany, and the Blue Ridge Quilt Festival in Blacksburg, VA. Karin often finds inspiration in her own snapshots; pictures and stories of the mystical world, and impressions from her travels. Her award-winning work has been exhibited at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, in the US Ambassador’s residence in Timor Leste, the Virginia Quilt Museum, and has traveled around the US as well as Europe and Asia. Her work has been featured in several books and magazines, and can be found in private collections. Coming from a very traditional quilting background, but with a lifelong love for photography, children’s books, and different art mediums, Karin finally discovered fiber art and never looked back. She specializes in quilts that tell a story: thoughtful, mystical, heart breaking, or tongue-in-cheek. Creating art hasn’t been boring since the fairies moved into her studio!
