Medallions: Contemporary & Historic

Medallion quilts feature a central motif surrounded by at least one border. They can feature pieced work, applique, a combination, or even be wholecloth quilts with the central motif and border achieved through quiltied patterns. Medallion quilts were popular in the early 1800s, and many contemporary patterns also fit this definition of a medallion quilt. This exhibit will juxtapose historic medallion quilts from the Virginia Quilt Museum's collection with contemporary medallion style quilts from our members. Come see old and new quilts side by side!
