The Virginia Quilt Museum is celebrating crazy quilts throughout 2022 with the making of a community crazy quilt.
Crazy quilts use irregularly shaped pieces of fabric pieced together. The seams and patches are often decorated with elaborate embellishments, like beads, paint, and embroidery. A variety of fabrics were used in a crazy quilt, including cotton, wool, ribbon, lace, silk, and velvet. Crazy quilts were all the rage in the late 1800’s. If you’ve been watching The Gilded Age on TV you may have noticed Ada working on a crazy quilt!
VQM’s Community Crazy Quilt is meant to be a project for our community both here in Harrisonburg and across the country. You can participate in many ways!
