Jane Stickle Exhibit

In 1863 Jane Stickle of Vermont created a quilt masterpiece, composed of 225 different blocks. More than 150 years later, quilt designer Brenda Papadakis redrafted Stickle's quilt so that modern quilt makers could reproduce it. Papadakis published her patterns in a book written in narrative style addressed to the maker. The quilts became known by the name of the book "Dear Jane." One of Papadakis' followers, Doreen Johnson, fell in love with the Stickle quilt and began teaching Modern Janes around Virginia to make the quilt based on Brenda’s patterns. Recognizing what an ambitious task this is to do by hand, Johnson has curated an exhibit of more than 30  "Baby Janes" done by Virginians. The exhibit A VIRGINIA TRIBUTE TO JANE opens May 5. A pre-opening event and reception on May 2 will feature Doreen Johnson who will present A TRIBUTE TO JANE STICKLE program for us.

Museum opens at 1:00 pm, May 2, with program at 1:30 pm. Meet the Artists Reception and book signing 3:00 - 4:00pm. Reservations required. Event is free.
