2018 Joy & Comfort Winter Tea

Join us this Holiday Season for our 2018 Joy & Comfort Tea, held on Sunday December 2, 2018.

Doors open at 12:30 pm with the main event from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

This year, the tea will be hosted at the Virginia Quilt Museum, located in downtown Harrisonburg, VA.

During the event, we will hear from our first speaker, followed by a traditional English tea, and conclude with our second speaker before wrapping up the afternoon.

Our 2018 presenters will include:

Dr. Steven Guerrier, History Professor at James Madison University

Dr. Guerrier will be discussing the importance of domesticity and female labor in the times of scarcity of the Great Depression.

Ralph P. Wakeman, Antique Sewing Machine Expert & Technician from Shenandoah Sew & Vac

Mr. Wakeman will be discussing the history of early sewing machines in the valley. Although Mr. Wakeman will be touching base on the Willcox & Gibbs Sewing Machine Company, he will mainly target the local history and home place of James Gibbs, Raphine, Virginia.

This year, food will be graciously catered by one of our local treasures, the Heritage Bakery & Cafe. Our menu will include both Sweet & Savory items, which are listed below.

  • Linzer Cookies

  • Shortbread

  • Muffins

  • Scones

  • Granola, fresh fruit & honey

  • Hummus, red pepper, feta & arugula tea sandwiches

  • Smoked salmon, cream cheese & dill tea sandwiches
